Terms of Use tRNAdb

1. Scope of Service
tRNAdb (“the Service”) is a database and API platform operated by the Interdisciplicary Centre for Bioinformatics (IZBI), part of the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI). The Service provides access to curated datasets and associated programmatic interfaces for use in academic research and non-commercial purposes.
2. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, you must not use the Service.
3. License and Permitted Use
Unless otherwise indicated, all data provided through the Service is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
You are free to:- Access, download, and use the data
- Share and adapt the data
- You must provide appropriate attribution (see Section 4)
- You may not use the data for commercial purposes
- If you create derivative works based on the data, you must distribute your contributions under the same license (ShareAlike)
4. Attribution Requirements
Users must give appropriate credit to:
- tRNAdb and the Interdisciplicary Centre for Bioinformatics (IZBI), and
- Any original data sources as indicated in the metadata (additional references may be provided)
Attribution must include:
- The name of the Service
- A reference (URL and/or DOI) to the Service
- Citation of relevant publications where provided
Suggested citation:

Publication for version 2.0 underway.
Where applicable, users must also comply with attribution requirements of third-party data providers.
ShareAlike requirement: If you create derivative works based on the data, you must distribute your contributions under the same license (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0).
5. Non-Commercial Use Restriction
The Service and its data may not be used for commercial purposes, including but not limited to:- Use in products or services offered for sale, licensing, or subscription
- Use within commercial research and development pipelines
- Integration into proprietary systems used for commercial advantage
- Use by for-profit entities beyond internal, non-commercial research

6. API Usage
Users of the API agree to:
- Use reasonable request rates and avoid excessive load on the Service
- Not attempt to circumvent technical restrictions or access controls
- Not systematically redistribute the entire dataset without permission
- Preserve all license and attribution information in downstream use
- Ensure that any derivative works based on the data are distributed under the same license (ShareAlike)
The operator reserves the right to impose rate limits or restrict access at any time.
7. Third-Party Data
The Service integrates data from external sources. Such data may be subject to additional licensing terms.
Users are responsible for complying with:
- The Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License, and
- Any additional terms specified by original data providers
8. No Warranty
The Service and all data are provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Accuracy
- Completeness
- Fitness for a particular purpose
The Service is intended for research use only and must not be used for clinical or diagnostic purposes.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Interdisciplicary Centre for Bioinformatics (IZBI) shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use of the Service, including but not limited to direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
10. Termination of Access
The operator reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to the Service at any time, particularly in cases of:
- Violation of these Terms of Use
- Misuse of the Service
- Excessive or abusive API usage
11. Changes to the Terms
These Terms of Use may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
